I often hear from clients that the hardest part about eating healthy is always having healthy food available so it’s easy to make good choices. I know how hard it is when you’re rushing out the door to get to work on time and you’ve completely forgot to pack any food for the day. So then you have to resort to eating out or even worse, the vending machine!
The best advice I can give you is to plan ahead. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be inconvenient or complicated. Here are my tips to making your life easier when trying to stick to eating healthy.
- Start by researching new recipes you want to try. I love coming up with a plan of what I want to eat for the week by looking at recipe sites and finding new things to try. Doing that makes me excited to eat the lunch I packed and helps keep me from making excuses to eat out. Some of my favorite sites are ChowStalker and NomNomPaleo. Try to always have a good lean protein, lots of vegetables and healthy fats.
- Make your grocery list and go shopping
- Pick a day that works best for you to cook your meals ahead of time. Sundays work great for me to take an hour or two to cook and pack up my meals.
- Don’t forget to pack healthy snacks too. I love having jerky, hard boiled eggs, fresh veggies and fruit on hand.
Getting organized and planning ahead will keep you from guessing what you’re going to eat everyday, keep you on track to reaching your goals and with making your meals ahead of time means less time in the kitchen during the week.
